Photojournalism Assignments

Portraits

Shooting portraits requires setting up lighting, backdrop, camera on tripod, positioning subject, and electronic name log.

Candids

During special events or daily campus life, candids communicate the experience of a person at a particular time or at a certain event.

Photo Essays

If done well, telling a story through photos requires few if any words. This is a series of photos demonstrating a step-by-step process over a short or long period of time.

Special Assignment

Covers specific events to capture ephemeral moments.

Art Director

Processes photos using Adobe PhotoShop to be sure each photo is the right size, resolution, and mode (cmyk or grayscale).

Writers

Cutlines identify all people in a photo and the basic facts about it (who, what, when, where, why and how). Writers include all this necessary information succinctly and consistent with journalistic style.

Editor

Oversees yearbook staff, manages deadlines, plans table of contents, helps advisor/instructor make assignments, plans theme, assists in working with publishing company.

two or more photos about the same subject published close together
